Travel with a baby: what to bring?

After an exhausting pregnancy and delivery, it can be good to go on a trip. Of course you will also take the new member of the family with you. Of course, this can cause a little more packing stress. What food should you bring? Where should my child sleep? These are all questions that cause a lot of stress. That is why in this article we are going to go through all the important things you should definitely bring along and some extra tips that may help.

What foods do you take with you when you travel?

In the beginning, when your baby is still being breastfed, it makes sense not to take extra food with you when you travel. But what if you choose not to breastfeed or your baby is already older?

If your baby is not yet eating solid food, it is best to take powdered milk with you. You can then choose whether to buy baby food in the holiday country or take it with you in your suitcase. It is best not to change food, as this can be bad for the baby’s intestines. So bring along the food your child eats every day.

Which medicines?

If you are travelling with a baby, you need to be extra vigilant about health. We definitely recommend bringing a thermometer, nasal spray, suppositories and baby ors.

Where should my baby sleep when travelling?

You have two options when it comes to a place to sleep. The first option is to assume that the cot in the room (of the hotel or other accommodation) is good enough. This is a risky option, because if the bed is not good enough, your baby will not be very happy.

Are you going on holiday by car? Then we recommend that you take a baby cot with you on your trip. You can choose a camping bed or something else that is easy to take with you. If you have booked a flight holiday, this is unfortunately not an option.

Apart from the cot, you should of course also take pyjamas, a sleeping bag and a sheet with you. A cuddly toy to sleep with and a dummy are also important. If your child values these things highly, it is difficult to leave them at home.

Will you be taking a pram or baby carrier with you?

This can be a difficult choice. We think this choice depends on the holiday destination. It is perfectly possible to take a buggy with you on the plane, sometimes you can even take it with you to the gate. A baby carrier is then a better option but your back will suffer more. We recommend a baby carrier for babies but certainly not for toddlers.

What clothes should I bring?

If you travel for a week, it is best to bring 9 outfits for your child. You should always have some spare clothing on hand in case something gets dirty. The choice of clothing is entirely up to you. As for bibs and flannels, it is best to bring 3 to 4 because you can rinse them easily. Don’t forget any Pampers. You should count on a baby needing at least 8 Pampers a day. This means that you should take around 56 Pampers with you when you travel. It is also better to pack a few extra in your luggage. Accidents can always happen. If you are travelling to a sunny destination, a cap and swimming costume are a good idea. Otherwise, take a hat and gloves.

If you have gone through each point, you are ready to go. First take a deep breath in and out. We wish you a pleasant journey!
